Seedlings

At Nursery in the Wood, our Seedlings class is designed for our youngest babies, who are just beginning life’s journey. Like tiny seeds still in the ground, infants at this stage are entirely dependent on the care and nurture of loving adults. These students are full of potential, needing gentle support to grow strong roots. But not all seeds are nurtured in the same way. You need to identify is this child a dandelion or an orchid? The earlier we get to know each child, the better the child’s growth will be.

We create a warm, peaceful, home-like environment where each baby is held, comforted, and supported throughout their day. Inspired by respectful, relationship-based approaches, our caregivers engage meaningfully with each child, using daily routines like feeding, diapering, and cuddling to build connection and trust.

Through responsive care, soothing routines, and age-appropriate sensory experiences, we nurture their growth and help them feel safe, secure, and ready to explore the world around them. These early months are a time of profound development, fostered by gentle music and natural materials that encourage early curiosity. Consistent rhythms provide the security little ones need to thrive.

Infants explore sensory-rich experiences like soft music, natural textures, and open-ended art materials such as clay and water, promoting creativity and motor development. We also introduce real musical instruments and safe, everyday items to help babies discover sound and rhythm, supporting their cognitive and sensory growth.

In our Seedlings room, we cultivate a peaceful, joyful space where babies can thrive, nurtured by attentive caregivers and surrounded by beauty, wonder, and gentle encouragement as they begin their journey of discovery.
